How to Prepare for a Newborn Photo Session

Before the Session: (at home)

Try to keep your baby more alert at home before the session, so that he/she would be more asleep during the session for those sleepy poses: giving him/her a morning bath would wake the baby up a bit.

Please make sure to moisturize your baby’s entire body at home. Flaky skin is very time consuming in editing. Bring some of your baby body lotion with you, just in case.

Bring extra diapers. If bottle fed, bring formula/bottle with you.

Feed your baby right before leaving. If bottle fed, bring formula/bottle with you. If you breastfeed but also pump and feed from bottle, please bring a bottle of milk with you, this will speed up feeding times. It makes a huge difference in how long the session takes, if baby has had a full feeding and a good burp after. We can work through a lot more poses and get much better images with a well fed baby.

If your baby takes a pacifier, bring it along! If your baby is already used to a pacifier, this will make a really big difference during the session.

You have a set session time, but don't stress if you're running a bit late. If you do run late, please text me (419-322-9626). I'm sure you have figured out by now leaving home with a baby is a lot more complicated than just the two of you stepping out.

The session can take 2 to 4 hours, depending on your package, feel free to bring some food for yourself (you’re welcome to warm things up).

If siblings are coming, we’ll do family pictures first. If you’re able to come by two cars, one parent can leave with the siblings after family pictures and we have more quiet time for baby only pictures.

During the Session

It will be warm in the studio, dress in layers. I turn the heat up to keep babies warm.

Depending on your package, the session can take 2 to 4 hours.

We start out with parent / family poses first.

There will be time to feed your baby and change diapers. We work at the baby’s pace. Their safety and comfort are my top priority, I will not push/force your baby into poses that he/she is not comfortable in. Some babies let me do almost anything... others are pickier, no worries. A well fed baby is much easier to pose.

There will be times that I might need your help, again mainly for your baby’s safety.
